Restorations

Its main objective is to restore the shape, function, and aesthetic appearance of affected teeth. Two types of materials are commonly used for this restoration:

Composite:

Dental composite is a modern restorative material that is widely used in dental care. It has several advantages over other restorative materials, such as dental amalgam. Some of its main benefits include:

  • Improved aesthetics: Dental composite is available in a range of shades that can be matched to the natural color of the patient's teeth. This ability to blend into the natural dentition makes composite restorations virtually invisible, thus offering an improved aesthetic result.
  • Preservation of the dental structure: Unlike dental amalgam, which often requires more thorough dental preparation, dental composite generally requires minimal removal of the healthy tooth structure. This preserves more of the original tooth, which is beneficial to the patient's long-term dental health.
  • Chemical adhesion: Dental composite can bond chemically to the natural tooth using special adhesive agents. This chemical bond strengthens the structure of the restored tooth and reduces the risk of leaks or fractures.
  • Repair of small cavities: Dental composite is particularly effective in repairing small cavities and dental defects. Its malleability allows dentists to accurately restore damaged areas while maintaining a natural appearance.
  • Biocompatibility: Dental composites are generally well tolerated by oral tissues and generally do not cause allergic reactions or sensitivity in most patients.
  • Versatility: Dental composite can be used for a range of dental procedures, including filling cavities, restoring fractured or chipped teeth, and even creating aesthetic restorations such as dental veneers.

In summary, dental composite offers an aesthetic, durable and versatile solution for restoring damaged teeth while maintaining the dental structure that is as healthy as possible.

Merge:

Dental amalgam is a restorative material composed primarily of mercury, silver, copper, and tin. Although it has been widely used for decades, its use is gradually decreasing due to aesthetic concerns and problems associated with the presence of mercury. However, it is still sometimes preferred, especially for children and, in some cases, for adults, due to its durability, ease of placement, and relatively low cost.

Conscious sedation:

Nitrous oxide, often called “laughing gas” in the dental context, is an odourless and colourless gas that has anesthetic and analgesic properties. Its use in dentistry is common to help reduce anxiety and pain associated with dental procedures.

When administered to the patient, nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen in controlled proportions using a specific system. This mixture is then inhaled by the patient using a nasal mask, often referred to as a “clown nose”, which allows the patient to remain aware and cooperative throughout the procedure. Nitrous oxide acts as a pain reliever by decreasing the perception of pain, allowing the patient to experience less discomfort during dental care.

One of the main benefits of nitrous oxide is its rapid action. The effects of analgesia generally occur within a few minutes after administration and wear off quickly once administration is stopped, allowing the patient to recover quickly and resume normal activities without residual anesthetic effects.

In summary, nitrous oxide is a valuable tool in dentistry for relieving pain and reducing anxiety for patients during dental procedures, while ensuring a quick and safe recovery afterwards.
